Quick Hitch Training Overview (Quick Couplers)

Quick Couplers (also called Quick Hitches) are used with construction machines to allow the rapid change of buckets and attachments on the machine. They remove the need to use hammers to manually drive out and insert the mounting pins for attachments. There are additional safety risks that must be overcome by careful design and manufacture, and proper use.

Quick Hitch Training Courses are designed mainly for operators and supervisors who are assigned responsibility to operate machines fitted with a Quick Hitch Systems.

Quick Hitch Training covers all aspects of how to inspect, use and change Quick Hitch Couplers safely. Our Quick Hitch Training Course provides operators with the knowledge and skills to understand their legal requirements and enable them to use a Quick Hitch safely follow the procedures when operating the equipment in the workplace.

After completion of a Quick Hitch Training Course, operators can complete an assessment in Quick Hitch operation. Operators will be trained and tested by one of our fully accredited, expert Quick Hitch Training Instructors. There is no substitute for thorough practical Quick Hitch Training in all aspects of using a Quick Hitch Coupler.

By the end of this Quick Hitch training course, the trainee operator will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular Quick Hitch to be used
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the Quick Hitch and explain their function
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for Quick Hitch use
  • Be able to explain the different types of Quick Hitch devices
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the designated change over exclusion zone
  • Fit and remove attachments safely and efficiently
  • Demonstrate and explain checks for attachment security
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

Quick Hitch Certification

  • NPORS Plastic identity card with photo, this card is issued by NPORS
  • Certification for this course is valid for 3 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the course before the expiry date
